Retrieving all your photos from Google Photos is possible, but it takes time — especially when the library has grown over the years.
What takes time
- The full export, Google Takeout, can take several hours or even several days before Google sends it.
- It arrives as several ZIP files to download and then extract.
- The larger the library, the longer the operation.
What does not always come along
A photo taken with a camera or phone keeps its date taken, recorded in the file. But videos, screenshots and received images often lack this information: retrieved through the export, they may show up at the export date. Captions and locations added in Google Photos are not carried over either.
The way around it: start early, from your phone
Photos still on your phone are backed up by Mon Écrin directly, with their date, without any export. The sooner you install the app, the smaller the share left to retrieve through Takeout.
What about your albums?
The albums in your phone's gallery can be recreated in Mon Écrin in a few taps. For a Google Photos album, select its photos and share them to Mon Écrin: you put them straight into an album. All the steps are in our help, under the question “How do I recover my photos from Google Photos?”.
Your memories stay yours
With Mon Écrin, your photos are kept in their original quality and stay downloadable at any time. No lock-in: your memories are yours, from the first day to the last.
