Sovereign cloud: what it changes for your photos

"Sovereign cloud": the phrase comes up often, but what does it mean for your family photos, your holiday videos or your important papers? A sovereign cloud is a storage service hosted on national territory and subject to that country's law, without depending on a foreign player. For Mon Écrin, it means three things.

1. Your data stays in France, under French law

Your photos, videos and documents are stored exclusively on OVHcloud Object Storage infrastructure, in the Paris region. Mon Écrin is published by a French company and hosted by OVH SAS, a French company: your files fall under French law and the GDPR, outside the US Cloud Act. They are never analysed, resold or used for advertising.

2. Simplicity does not disappear

Sovereign does not mean complicated. Smartphone, tablet or computer: your files are automatically backed up, and you find them from the app or your browser. They are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and every transfer goes through a secure HTTPS/TLS connection.

3. You stay free

Your memories belong to you: you can download your entire vault whenever you want, as a ZIP archive, and request an export of your data at any time. If you cancel, a grace period gives you time to get everything back.

In short

Choosing a sovereign cloud means knowing where your photos are, which law protects them, and being able to leave with them whenever you decide. To learn more, discover why Mon Écrin is a sovereign cloud.
